Since many of our members are young professionals and are planning to purchase a new home sometime in the near future, TAP-Chicago and TJCCC will be hosting a seminar to help you through the process.

Maria Hao of Pan Realty of Naperville has graciously volunteered to speak to us about being a first-time Homeowner/buyer.

TAP-Chicago Professional Seminar with Unmi Song

TAP-Chicago and Asian Professional Network (APN) are hosting a professional seminar featuring our guest speaker Unmi Song, executive director of the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation, a Chicago-based foundation that supports nonprofits serving low-income communities in Chicago with a focus on arts education, education, employment, and health.

 

Unmi will discuss her transition from the banking/finance sector to non-profit community work, her involvement with the White House Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and her membership in the Asian Giving Circle, a group of people who pool their donations to support Asian American community organizations. A Q&A session will follow the presentation. We will provide light snacks and refreshments during the event.

Please also join us for drinks and networking afterwards at a nearby location (TBD).

Tickets: Must be registered by 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 13, 2012 for access to building.

More about the Speaker: Song received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago and continued her education at the University’s Graduate School of Business, obtaining an M.B.A. in Finance and International Business in 1986. She has expertise in the financial arena; Song was a vice president of Bankers Trust Company and held positions at Citicorp Investment Bank in New York City, at the First National Bank of Chicago and at Gold Star Tele-Electric Company, in Seoul, Korea.  Prior to joining the Fry Foundation, she handled Employment Program grantmaking, which covered job training and welfare policy issues, at the Joyce Foundation.

Song has many affiliations with philanthropic and nonprofit organizations.  She was appointed by President Obama to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.  She currently serves on the boards of the Donors Forum of Illinois and the Alliance for the Great Lakes.  The Alliance advocates for public policies that protect and help clean-up the Great Lakes.  She has served as board chair for the Asian American Justice Center, overseeing the growth of what is now the nation’s leading Pan-Asian American civil rights group.  Song was also a board member of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy.
