Lunar New Year Gala Planning Meeting 4
We are planning our 6th Annual Lunar New Year Gala and are looking for enthusiastic committee members to help us plan and execute our biggest event of the year!
If you have wanted to be more involved with TAP-Chicago or give back to the community, then this is the perfect opportunity! See what goes on behind the scenes, meet some new friends, and work with a group of like-minded people.
This is our third meeting but it is not too late to jump in and get involved. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience required!

Verseatile Album Release Party + Typhoon Relief Fundraiser
Join TAP-Chicago & KACC Thanksgiving weekend for an epic album release party with Chicago-native Verseatile as he takes the stage at the Abbey Pub along with some of Chicago’s finest up and coming artists, including openers like Kelly Grace, 2013 Kollaboration Chicago winner Alvin Lau, and 2013 Kollaboration Chicago finalist Ashlee Barrera.
Portion of the funds will be donated to the National Alliance of Filipino Concerns (NAFCON)
to help the victims of the typhoon in Philippines – more info. below

Artist Bio:
Verseatile (Mike Chun) has been involved in music for nearly 10 years as a rapper and a songwriter. Originally from Chicago, he is currently pursuing his career in Los Angeles where he now resides. Chicago’s hip hop scene has influenced Verse’s ability to “snipe” (rapping in double time speed) as well as his preference in soulful production. Combining the genres of hip hop, soul, and r&b, Verse’s sound consists of deep lyrics delivered over emotion-driven beats that allows him to share his story that ultimately points to a bigger story.

Your donation will be sent directly to the poor and underserved who need our donations the most through NAFCON’s partner organizations such as Visayas Primary Health Care Services (VPHCS). VPHCS is a non-profit established in 1985 aiming to promote primary health care programs in the Visayas, assisting marginalized sectors of society: urban poor dwellers, farmers, fisherfolks, women and children in building and strengthening community-based health programs. Lunar New Year Gala Planning Meeting 3
UPDATE: Our meeting will be in the downstairs private dining room at Ming Hin Cuisine in Chinatown Square at 2168 S Archer Ave starting at 7 pm. Prior to the meeting at 6:15 pm, we will be doing a site visit of this year’s beneficiary, Project: Vision at 2301 S Archer Ave.

TAP-CHICAGO and TAP-ILLINOIS present Professional Development Seminar with Ernest Wong and Erikka Wang
TAP-Chicago and TAP-Illinois are hosting a professional and leadership development seminar featuring guest speakers Ernest Wong and Erikka Wang. Ernest is the founder of site design group ltd, an urban design and landscape architecture firm based in Chicago. Due to his many professional achievements, the Chicago Tribune named Ernest as “2010 Chicagoan of the Year”. Mr. Wong is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chinese American Service League (CASL), the largest social services organization in the Midwest serving Chinese Americans.
Erikka Wang is the co-founder and creator of the clothing boutique Akira. Ten years ago, Erikka and two friends combined their life savings and made her unique vision for the store a reality with no outside capital. Today, the Chicago-based boutique has 19 locations in the city and suburbs along with a thriving online store. Ms. Wang was named a Crain’s 40 under 40 in 2011. She is also member of the CASL Board of Directors.
Ernest and Erikka will discuss their professional and entrepreneurial careers as well as their involvement in service and leadership in the community. A Q&A session and networking will follow their presentations. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Ernest Wong is the President of site design group ltd and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows, the American Planning Association, and the Urban Land Institute. Ernest has directed many award-winning projects including Ping Tom Memorial Park, The Park at Lakeshore East, and the State Street Lightscape. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ernest served on Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Transition Committee for Economic Development and Planning. He currently serves as a Commissioner on both the Chicago Landmarks Commission and the Commission on Cultural Affairs.
Erikka Wang was a leading force in the ideation and creation of well- known women’s clothing boutique Akira. With 19 locations in the city and suburbs along with a thriving online store, Akira’s corporate headquarters supports more than 200 employees.

Holiday Party and Toy Drive
Get in the holiday spirit by joining TAP-Chicago for our annual holiday party and toy drive event at Vora, one of the newest venues in the Gold Coast. Vora is the only restaurant in Chicago that offers traditional Taiwanese street food and drinks with fresh and contemporary interior design.
We will be collecting new unwrapped toys ($10-$15) that will be distributed as Christmas gifts to help under privileged children in the community experience the joy of Christmas. This year TAP-Chicago has partnered with Dreams For Kids to collect toys for their Holiday For Hope event.

Hot Seat: Spoken Word (Re)Generations w/Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, Kevin Coval, and avery young
Drawing from their shared roots in Chicago’s rich multicultural spoken word scene, slam poets Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai, Kevin Coval, and avery young will share from new original works that contemplate culture, race, and identity.
After each performance, each artist will be in the “hot seat,” responding to a series of questions from the other two artists. Together, they’ll explore what it means to evolve as spoken word artists and how their work impacts and is impacted by Chicago’s changing cultural landscape over the last decade.
Youth poets from Young Chicago Authors will open the show and a reception will follow.

Halloween 2013: Zombie Boogie Down on Fulton
The people who brought you the epic Halloween event series at the Warehouse, Loft Party at Bottom Lounge, and Red Violet are back at it again. This year we are bringing you back to the warehouse style as we present Zombie Boogie Down on Fulton. Join Chicago’s young Asian American professionals at our exclusive former factory space in the historic Fulton warehouse district. We are providing a 4 hour premium open bar to go along with the best beats spun by multiple DJ’s headlined by KISS FM and Chicago legend JayFunk. We realize that this takes place after Oct 31, but this year Halloween is on a Thursday, so save those costumes for 2 more days.
