Mid Autumn Festival Party

The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋節) has been a Chinese tradition since 16th century BCE; it’s an opportunity for friends to celebrate togetherness and rejuvenation. Bring your friends and join TAP-Chicago in this celebration of the full harvest moon with traditional Chinese costumes, stories, games, lanterns, and mooncakes (月餅)!

The celebration will take place on the rooftop party room at Env Chicago (161 W Kinzie St), perfect for moon-gazing with its amazing views of the city of Chicago.

General admission ticket: $35 by Wed, September 30th.

All About That Bass: Taiko Drumming Concert

Join TAP-Chicago as we check out the big taiko show ROTATIONS at the Athenaeum Theatre’s main stage! The show is an innovative collaboration between Chicago’s Ho Etsu Taiko and Los Angeles’ On Ensemble.

Attendees will see both groups perform in this exciting, high-energy drumming extravaganza! TAP-Chicago has a limited number of discount tickets for premium (2nd and 3rd row!) seats for only $25.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
One of the Midwest’s premiere taiko groups, Ho Etsu Taiko draws from traditional Japanese musical styles and a broad variety of contemporary music to create a uniquely Chicago sound with global roots.

Hailing from Los Angeles, the On Ensemble is led by childhood friends Shoji Kameda and Masato (Maz) Baba. The Ensemble has made a name for itself by infusing the powerful rhythms of taiko with overtone singing, odd meter grooves and soaring melodies.

PARKING: There are two paid parking lots and limited street parking. Parking lot fees are $2 per hour with a maximum of $6, good until 2am. Metered parking on Lincoln Ave is also available for $2 per hour for 2 hours at a time.

FLIP CUP TOURNAMENT! – Presented by TAP Typhoon Dragon Boat Team

Come and show your flip cup skills on Saturday, October 17th at the first flip cup fundraiser tournament hosted by the TAP-Typhoon Dragon Boat Team! Details are as follows:

– The tournament will begin promptly at 2pm.
– $20 entry fee per person ($100 per team), which includes food, beer, and a chance for a winning team to win a cash prize of $200-300!
– Teams will be co-ed and consist of 5 members, and with a minimum of 2 women per team.
– Tournament will consist of a time trial for each team before proceeding to playoffs, which are double elimination. Thus, each team will be guaranteed to play two full matches plus the time trial!
– DEADLINE for team submissions is THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15th!

TAP-Chicago & KACC Present: “Inside the Agent” CIA Panel and Mixer

Attend an exclusive program by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for business professionals of all backgrounds. Attendees will learn what the Asian American experience is like in a not-so-well-known organization. Hear first-hand perspectives from a panel of Asian American CIA officers. Each panelist will share the experiences of his or her journey to and through the CIA in a thoughtful and entertaining fashion.

Learn about what the CIA is responsible for today and how it accomplishes its mission with the assistance of Asian Americans as well as the variety of internships and career opportunities for Asian Americans within the intelligence community.

After the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to network and foster valuable connections with members of the CIA as well as other professionals in the Chicago area. Attendees will enjoy complimentary heavy appetizers and a cash bar.

The Art of Public Speaking

Join TAP-Chicago on September 16, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for a seminar on public speaking and leaderships skills. Learn how to overcome anxiety and become a confident speaker, no matter the audience and subject matter. In addition to improving our skills, we will discuss creation of an ongoing public speaking and leadership training program.

Registration is free through September 12 and only $5 afterward. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Wine and beer are complementary, but please tip your bartender! All tips will go towards funding a public speaking and leadership training program for TAP-Chicago.

Cynthia is the current Vice President of Education and Past President of HHS Toastmasters. Chicago International Dragon Boat Festival w/TAP-Chicago Typhoon & AScene Chicago

Dragon boating with TAP-Chicago is great way to make new friends, get a workout, experience the thrill of competition, and thrive in a team environment. Paddling experience and athletic prowess are appreciated but not required.

Spectators are welcome to cheer on the team and enjoy the festival in Lake Arlington. Come find us at our team tent with the big TAP-Chicago banner.
