Join TAP-Chicago’s Community Service Team as we strive to make a difference in the community. We will be volunteering with Breakthrough’s Fresh Market. Fresh Market is eliminating hunger and transforming neighborhoods in East Garfield Park by providing a sense of dignity, community and hope. Come be a part of this by serving at their indoor Fresh Market which provides fresh food items to the needy and low-income families! You can fill any volunteer role as follows: Greeters, Computer Registration, Hospitality, Personal Shopping Assistant, Stockers, Set-up and Tear-down.

Chinatown Spring Cleanup

The city of Chicago is organizing a citywide cleanup and TAP-Chicago wants to help!

We’re getting a group together with our main focus on Chinatown. The city will provide all the tools and equipment that we will need. Our main focus will be the viaduct and if we get enough people to help out, we might even be able to do more!

The deadline for signup is Friday, April 10. So, PLEASE respond by then; we need a get a rough estimate of how many people will be coming so we know how much equipment to ask for.

February Happy Hour/Lunar Ball Launch Party with KACC

febhhCome out and join TAP-Chicago & KACC for our February happy hour as we start counting down the days until Lunar Ball 2015 (Mar 7th). The happy hour will take place at Vora on Friday the 13th, which also happens to be the day before Valentine’s Day. What better way to end a busy work week than meeting up old friends over drinks and food, or come out and network with new people. Vora will be offering drink specials (tbd) as well as complimentary light appetizers. Their full kitchen menu will also be available for purchase. Vora is one of the few establishments in Chicago that boasts authentic Taiwanese comfort foods.

**We will be giving away tickets to Lunar Ball 2015.

**There will be live DJs all night: DJ Krazy and Granite.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The 7th Annual Lunar Ball, Chicago’s largest fundraiser for Asian American young professionals and friends, will be held on Saturday, March 7th at the Chicago History Museum. On behalf of the Lunar Ball Committee, we invite you to support community development and education by attending Lunar Ball 2015.

This year, we expect a crowd of 500+ of Chicago’s most accomplished and involved young professionals to fill the Chicago History Museum for an evening of fun, food, and networking. The event will include tastings from Chicago’s top restaurants, adult beverages all night, performances, multiple DJs, raffle, and silent auction.

January Mixer and Winter Coat Drive

Join TAP-Chicago for their January mixer and winter coat drive event at Henry’s Swing Club, located in the heart of River North, but not your typical River North style venue. Henry’s swing club is part of the DMK family, and boasts over 20+ different types of gourmet sliders.

We will be working with another amazing and deserving organization, Heartland Alliance, to collect gently used winter coats that will be distributed to families this winter. Heartland Alliance’s mission is to advance the human rights and respond to the human needs of endangered populations—particularly the poor, the isolated, and the displaced—through the provision of comprehensive and respectful services and the promotion of permanent solutions leading to a more just global society.

Holiday Party and Toy Drive

Get in the holiday spirit and join TAP-Chicago & TJCCC for our 3rd annual holiday mixer and toy drive event at Municipal Bar located in the heart of River North.

We will be collecting new unwrapped toys (must be valued at $10-$15) that will be distributed as Christmas gifts to help under privileged children in the Chicago community experience the joy of Christmas. This year TAP-Chicago has partnered with Dreams For Kids to collect toys for their Holiday For Hope event.

Food Packing & Distribution at Saint James Food Pantry

Join TAP-Chicago to help pack and distribute food to those in need! This is a great opportunity to make immediate impact to those who are hungry.

St. James Food Pantry is the one of largest food pantry in the city of Chicago and is essential to the area. High unemployment levels and increasing scarcity of affordable housing produce a greater need for the services at St James Food Pantry and they solely serves those who resides in the 60616/60605 zip code area. (which includes Chinatown and the immediate south side)

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Dress comfortably/warmly
2. All Volunteers MUST arrive on time at 8:00am

Cost:
1. Your man-power
2. Please consider donating to the St James Food Pantry (cans food accepted)

Rescue Dog Walking Round 2

Join TAP-Chicago to lend a helping hand/paw to man’s best friends as we walk dogs from the Chicago Canine Rescue! The shelter is a 5 minute walk from the Forest Glen Woods preserve, so this is a great opportunity to get exercise and fresh air while giving back to the community.

Chicago Canine Rescue was founded in 2001 to help find permanent homes for dogs considered too young, old, ill, or have special needs that would otherwise be euthanized at local shelters. There are currently 80 or so dogs at the Rescue that would love to your attention and care!

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Photo ID is required!
2. Please fill out Chicago Canine Rescue’s volunteer waiver form
3. All volunteers MUST arrive on time at 11:00am for mandatory orientation and dog handling instructions

COST:
1. Free, but we ask that you reserve a free ticket so we know if we have the right number of volunteers to help our four-legged friends: [Link Coming Soon]
2. Please consider donating to the Chicago Canine Rescue as they have mentioned that they are desperately short of funding.

Networking Mixer and Canned Food Drive at The Packing House

Come join TAP-Chicago on Nov.13th from 6-9PM @ The Packing House for our November networking mixer. This swank venue is located in the trendy West Loop meatpacking district. The space has been recently remodeled and boasts a modern yet casual vibe, focusing on great drinks and bringing a gourmet spin on American comfort foods. There is also a gorgeous rooftop space if the weather allows!

Admission is free by registering on Eventbrite during the early bird period AND bringing $5 equivalent of canned foods in support of Breakthrough Ministries.

Lincoln Park Community Kitchen

Join the TAP Community Service team as we plan, prep, cook, and serve lunch to 30+ assisted living members at the Lincoln Park Community Shelter.

The Lincoln Park Community Shelter serves an estimated 25,000 of the would-be homeless in Chicago. Since its inception the shelter provides sleeping facilities, kitchen facilities, showers, storage rooms, laundry areas, and offices. As a meal program was added, capacity increased to 40 beds, and social services were offered to help guests return to self-sufficiency.

On February 12, 2010 the Lincoln Park Community Shelter celebrated its 25th year of service to the homeless. The LPCS continues to rely on the support of volunteers and supporters throughout the community. Much appreciation goes to the founding churches, community residents and business for continuing to support the LPCS.

Space is limited, firm commitments ONLY.

Cost: $10 donation towards food and supplies. Non-refundable.
