Participating in the Double Ten Parade
Come join TAP-Chicago this Saturday as we participate in the annual Double Ten Parade in Chinatown. The Double Ten Parade is an annual event held to commemorate the Wuchang Uprising, a revolt that led to a declaration of independence from the central government by Wuchang and several other provinces in China in 1911, which ultimately led to the Xinhai Revolution in which revolutionary forces overthrew the Qing Dynasty,
Every year, the Chinatown neighborhood and thousands of people from all over the city of Chicago join together to attend and participate in the Double Ten Parade. This year the festivities will include performances by students and other artists, marching bands, floats and other entertainment. In addition, the Double Ten Parade is attended by leaders of the Chinatown community, representatives of associations in the Chinatown community, and other honorable guests and dignitaries.
The Double Ten Parade is organized by the CCBA. The CCBA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and was established in the 1880s in Chicago. ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
One of the Midwest’s premiere taiko groups, Ho Etsu Taiko draws from traditional Japanese musical styles and a broad variety of contemporary music to create a uniquely Chicago sound with global roots.
Hailing from Los Angeles, the On Ensemble is led by childhood friends Shoji Kameda and Masato (Maz) Baba. The Ensemble has made a name for itself by infusing the powerful rhythms of taiko with overtone singing, odd meter grooves and soaring melodies.
